Westlake Cleveland OH Alimony Divorce Attorney
Will Alimony or Child Support Be Part of Your Divorce Settlement?
Spousal maintenance and child support issues are often among the most emotional and contentious issues that arise out of divorce. One party feels entitled to receive the money to keep her or his head above water — at least temporarily. The other party sees the payments as unjustified and improperly used. Finding the right solution often lies somewhere in the middle.
At The Gundy Law Firm, we have been helping clients resolve their hard divorce issues for more than seven years. Under the direction of John Gundy, Jr., attorneys Steve Tylman and of counsel attorney David M. Benson provide experienced, focused divorce and family law representation. We are skilled negotiators who understand what the courts will expect from a fair settlement. Contact us at our Cleveland, Twinsburg, Independence, Mentor, Russell, Westlake or Beachwood, Ohio office today to schedule a consultation.
A Note About Child Support
Under Ohio law, child support is determined by a set of financial data that gets plugged into a child support calculator. The data includes income and expenses of both parents and can include variables such as children from previous and subsequent marriages. As your attorney, our responsibility is to ensure that data is accurate and the other party is fair and complete about her or his financial information. Whether you are paying or receiving child support, we protect your financial interests and rights.
A Note About Spousal Maintenance
Alimony is typically divided into two broad categories, temporary and permanent. Temporary spousal support is used to help one party get education or job training and cover living expenses until he or she is able to secure employment. For marriages under 10 years in duration, it is typically the only type of alimony awarded.
Permanent spousal support is typically awarded only in cases of a long-term marriage, in which one spouse devoted all time and energy toward the upkeep and maintenance of home and family and has little opportunity to apply out-of-date job skills in the marketplace.
